Oba of Lagos Finally Speaks on Ooni of Ife Snub, Gives reply to social media controversy

Oba of Lagos "Oba Rilwan Akiolu" on the left and the Ooni of ife, "Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi" on the right.

This past few days, alot has been trending both physically and on social media in Nigeria, but highly spoken about has been the "Snub" SAGA which most people perceived with the occurence at a public function on Tuesday 25th of April when the Ooni of ife, "Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi"   greeted the Oba of Lagos "Oba Rilwan Akiolu" and he sharply raised his hand to respond.

However, Oba of Lagos has finally responded saying he was misjudged as he never snubbed the Ooni. He said each tribe has their own peculiar way of greetings and that the Oba of Lagos was basically trying to revive the culture and tradition of ancient Lagos with his greetings. He said Yoruba has a very rich culture. There is no quarrel between the Oba of Lagos and Ooni of Ife.

In a statement by one of the white cap chiefs of Lagos, Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, the Opeluwa Onido of Lagos, Oba Akiolu claims he greeted the Ooni of Ife in line the cultural provisions in Lagos.
“The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos, Ajose claims.
He continues ” if Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni.
“There is no misunderstanding between both highly revered monarchs in Yorubaland.”
He further disclosed that Lagos culture was no respecter of persons irrespective of status and that was why Akiolu greeted the Ooni that way.
“As we met it, that is the way we are doing it.
“Kabiyesi Oba Akiolu is trying to bring back the old pattern, the old culture we have left behind.
He also blamed Social Media for fuelling the controversy.
“What happened that day was wrongly speculated by the social media to disrupt peace and order and misinterpret Oba Akiolu’s action.
“We just want to appeal to the social media to stop spreading wrong information.”

More interestingly, while the Nigerian Social Media space has been thrown into a frenzy with multiple backlash for the Lagos Monarch, the Ooni himself has earlier stated that he still hold Oba Akiolu in high regard. So I guess that ends the misjudged rift between the two as perceived by the public.

INTERESTING- Buhari launches the long-awaited ERGP Today, Wed, April 5, 2017

President Buhari launches his Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) for Nigeria. Below is the summary of it all.
President Buhari launches Nigeria's Economic Recovery and Growth Plan today, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Abuja.
“The Medium-Term ERGP, which had earlier been approved by the Federal Executive Council has amongst its broad strategic objectives, restoring sustainable, accelerated inclusive growth and development; investing in the people; and building a globally competitive economy,” the Presidency has said.

But while the Presidency and the Ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning continue to churn out big vocabularies, Nigerians are only interested in what matters to them.
After adequate scrutiny, the keypoints have been extracted.
Food on the table, jobs for the unemployed, hope for the entrepreneurs, good education, health facilities and security of lives and property.
Despite the International Monetary Fund's lack of faith in the plan, President Buhari seems unmoved. So, there must be something driving the President.

Read below:

1.       The ERGP is a 3-year plan expected to bring Nigeria out of recession. ‘Recovery’ is the immediate plan while ‘growth’ is the long-term development plan
2.       Its main target is to restore growth of Nigeria’s economy, invest in Nigerian people, and build a globally competitive economy
3.       Fighting corruption and tackling insecurity remain important feature in growing the economy
4.       It focuses on creating good environment for citizens to engage in non-oil businesses where everyone can compete fairly
5.       It aims to revamp local refineries so that Nigeria can produce up to 2.5 million barrels per day by 2020 (from 1.4 million barrels per day in 2016) and reduce petroleum product importation
6.       By implication, Nigeria can then sell more. So oil revenue can rise from N700 billion in 2016 to N1.45 trillion per year by 2020;
7.       Also by implication, it predicts that by the year 2020 (the next three years), federal government will earn N4.7 trillion, growing from the N2.7 trillion it earned in 2016
8.       It recommends how federal and state governments will now collaborate towards achieving these national objectives
9.       Government is not doing this alone. They must also now collaborate more with private companies, especially in the production of food and power
10.     Small businesses will get more attention because the economic recovery is dependent on them
11.   Government now wants to save N50 billion per year and reduce government running cost by 25%
12.   Like many Nigerians have said, there appears to be a strong political determination and commitment to realize the objectives - a special office has been set up in the Presidency to monitor progress of the ERGP.

God bless Nigeria.

JOBS: FG's Online Registration For Unemployed Opens April 5

An opportunity is showing up for job seekers in Nigeria, as the government is opening a portal for them to register and get linked with existing vacancies.
Are you unemployed and you live in Nigeria? Wednesday April 5 may be the beginning of new things for you.
The government is set to begin online registration of job-seekers in all 36 states of the federation.
The spokesman for the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Edmund Onwuliri, said the registration would enable the agency to collate up-to-date data.
He said the registration is in compliance with NDE's mandate "to obtain and maintain a data bank on unemployment and vacancies in the country".
The deputy director told the News Agency of Nigeria that the exercise would enable the directorate to serve as a clearing house, linking job seekers with existing vacancies in government agencies and the private sector.
"The online portal which goes live on Wednesday April 5, 2017, is designed to capture the relevant details of any unemployed person. It will equally serve as a job exchange portal that will link job seekers and employers.
"There will be a practical demonstration of the workings of the portal at the NDE stand at the ongoing 28th edition of the Enugu International Trade on Thursday," he said.

He gave the portal’s address as: www.jobsforall.ng.

"The directorate sees this initiative as a bold step toward deepening the effectiveness of its employment creation strategies and a critical input into the process of designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and schemes."
Onwuliri explained that the initiative would go a long way to eliminate the cumbersome process of recruitment by employers of skilled labour in private and public sectors.
Africa's most populous nation has witnessed employment rate increase in 7 straight quarters, making it harder for Nigerian graduates to secure jobs after school.
With over 11.2 million unemployed persons, the government is battling to provide jobs as promised during election campaign that brought the Muhammadu Buhari administration into office in 2015.

Meningitis Outbreak: Vaccination To Commence In Zamfara State From Wed April 5, 2017

The Director General, Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Iheakweazu announced earlier today during the Senate committee meeting with CDC, that reactive Meningitis Vaccination is to commence in Zamfara State from Wednesday April 5, 2017.

This is in response to the meningitis outbreak which has led to the death of 328 people across the country, with Zamfara state recording the highest number of deaths.
Speaking at a meeting with the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care, Mr Iheakweazu lamented that his organization has been dealing with the problem of insufficient funds, as the agency’s 2016 budget was not sufficient to effectively handle the recent outbreak of meningitis in the country.
He asked the National Assembly to intervene in the area of providing access to vaccination for meningitis.

British Govt To 'Whistleblow' On Nigerian Property Owners in the UK

The British government will release information about Nigerians who secretly own property in the United Kingdom by 2018.
The British government will release information about Nigerians who own property in that country within the next 9 months.
The houses include all the ones bought by public officials or accounts that are held by public officials on which they are right now not paying taxes or which they cannot explain the sources.
The move is expected to help Nigeria in the fight against corruption.
Under a new plan meant to combat money-laundering, the British government will provide Nigeria with the information about who owns what and where.
Negotiations on the disclosure had reached advanced stage according to the Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption,  Bolaji Owosanoye.
He said the measure being taken by the governments of both countries will ensure that there is no safe haven for corrupt officials.
"There’s no doubt that rogues in government oppress and impoverish their people by corruption and this must be sanctioned by collective action.
"We need to make sure that there is no safe haven for corrupt officials to run to.
"Britain has promised that by 2018, she will provide Nigeria with the information about who owns what and where; that’s very helpful.
"So if you cannot buy a house in England, you have to look for somewhere else. But if all countries criminalise this, then it becomes much more difficult unless you want to buy the house on Mars,” he said.

SHOCKING! A 9-Year-Old Boy was Raped To Death by a Gay Man in Niger state

Food for thought!

What a pity...

She gave her car key to the youngest child in the car while she went to buy some stuff in the mall. Upon her return, the boy had misplaced the key and the whole family was stranded on the road.
Observing her discomfort with innocent kids without a masculine shepherd, I joined the search party.
For each passing minute without the key, she landed the boy that had the key with a slap or a concentrated curse!
After few minutes, she strayed in frustration into a motorbike's way and was knocked down. It was in the process of helping her up and picking the pieces of her belongings that the car key was found. She had already lost herself before the key was found!
Many people lose themselves in search of what is missing in their lives.
*Many lose their moral limb while searching for the "missing rib"!
*Some lose their health while searching for material wealth.
*I know those who lost their message while searching for relevance and sponsors.
*Some lose their marriage while searching for a mirage.
*Some have lost their integrity while looking for affinity.
Don't get missing because something was lost.
+Sometimes, you just need to ignore the emotional missing link so you can remain spiritually connected.
+Don't lose your mind because the job is lost.
+Don't lose your children while searching for their school fees.
+Don't lose your ministry while searching for tithes and instruments.
+Don't lose your mantle while searching for title.
When those things are eventually discovered or acquired, greater things (yourself, relationship, character, values & virtues) would have probably dissolved!
The apostles were looking for peace in the midst of storm, but by the time Jesus restored calmness they have lost their faith.
Similar way Elimelech lost his life and sons in search of greener pastures.
When you eventually hammer, will your nail still be strong to hold the woods of your integrity in a frame?
=By the time you get popular, will you not be strange to dignity?
=By the time you get visa or fame, will your passport to purity not have torn?
=When you eventually make the money, will your marriage/friendship/relationships, still have meaning? God bless you
Think about it...

Medical Alert! Public Advisory on Meningitis outbreak in Nigeria: Reduce kissing, hand shaking, avoid overcrowding, self-medication, etc

Nigeria's Ministry of Health has issued a public advisory following the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) that has spread across the country and mostly affecting States in the upper parts of the country which fall within the African Meningitis Belt.

Other Countries that are facing similar outbreaks at the moment include our West-African Neighbours like Niger, Chad, Cameroun, Togo, and Burkina Faso. The larger African Meningitis Belt consists of 26 Countries that stretch from Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bissau in the west coast to eastern countries of Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Ninety (90) Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Sixteen (16) States of the Federation are so far affected including Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Nassarawa, Jigawa, FCT, Gombe, Taraba , Yobe, Kano, Osun, Cross Rivers, Lagos and Plateau. The total number of people affected across these States is 2524 with 328 Deaths. So far, a total 131 samples have been confirmed in the Laboratory, out of which a majority are Neisseria Meningitides type C. This current outbreak started in Zamfara State in the 50th week of 2016 (i.e. November 2016)

Information to the Public:
Prevention:
· Avoidance of overcrowding
· Sleep in well ventilated places
· Avoidance of close and prolonged contact with a case/s
· Proper disposal of respiratory and throat secretions
· Strict observance of hand hygiene and sneezing into Elbow joint/sleeves
· Reduce hand shaking, kissing, sharing utensils or medical interventions such as mouth resuscitation
· Vaccination with relevant sero-type of the meningococcal vaccine
· Self-medication should be avoided
Early Diagnosis, Treatment and Isolation:
· Very important that all individuals should acquaint themselves with at least the basic knowledge/understanding of CSM and how it is transmitted and prevented
· Strictly adhere to the advice of Health workers on how to protect oneself as enumerated above
· Prompt seeking for medical/health care as soon as CSM or CSM-Like Illness is suspected
· All Hospitals to ensure that appropriate Diagnoses are made including laboratory confirmation and immediate reporting through the surveillance system
· Commence early treatment as soon as the diagnoses of CSM is made
· Restrict mingling with other people once one is diagnosed as a case of CSM
· All Secondary and Tertiary Public Health Facilities should provide free treatment to all CSM Patients
Finally, the Federal Ministry of Health calls upon the general public to remain calm as the disease Cebro-spinal Meningitis (CSM) is both preventable and curable. Although the cumulative number of people and locations affected may continue to increase, the actual rate of increase has begun to decline in some states indicating that the end of the epidemic is in sight.
All Public Sector Hospitals (Secondary and Tertiary Hospitals) have been directed to provide free treatment for all Cases of Cerebrospinal Meningitis.
We wish to thank all our National and International Development partners (Multilateral and bilateral) who supported us in accessing the relevant CSM Vaccines which have already been deployed to Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and FCT. We are equally reassured that more Doses are expected and all necessary documentation for the new vaccines arrivals have been concluded.
The Federal Ministry of Health will continue to provide regular feedback to the General Public on the necessary steps to take. Meanwhile, everybody is advised to remain calm and continue to abide by the health advisory being issued periodically.`
